NIFT

    The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), set up in 1986 under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, is a Statutory Institute governed by the NIFT Act 2006. Bringing in a wide range of aesthetic & intellectual orientations, the early instructors included leading progressive scholars from Fashion Institute of Technology, New York, USA.

    National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) conducts NIFT entrance exam in order to shortlist aspirants for admission in design programmes offered by it. Each year, more than 22,000 students appear for NIFT exam.

    Considered to be a pioneer in fashion education, NIFT has its headquarters in New Delhi. Apart from this city, NIFT has domestic centres at Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur, Patna, Shillong, Raebareli and Srinagar.

    Eligibility Criteria


  • For B.Des and B.F.Tech

    (a) 10+2 from recognised board..

    (b) 3 or 4-years diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.

    (c) A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects


  • For M.Des and M.F.M

    (a) Bachelor Degree from any Institute/ University recognised by law in India or

    (b)Undergraduate Diploma of minimum 3 years duration in UG Design from NIFT or NID

  • For Master of Fashion Technology (M.F.Tech.):
  • (a) Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F.Tech.) from NIFT or Bachelor of Engineering (B.E )/ B.Tech. from any Institute


    Syllabus


  • 1.For B.Des:

    It is of 100 marks and consists of 2 rounds


    Round 1: Written Test

  • (a) General Ability Test (GAT): This test is for all

    It will comprise of various sections as given below:

    i. Quantitative Ability

    ii. Communication Ability

    iii. English Comprehension

    iv. Analytical Ability

    v. Current Affairs and General Knowledge

  • (b) Creative Ability Test (CAT)

    – B.Des applicants only- The CAT judges the power of observation in concept development, intuitive ability, and design ability of the candidate. An important aspect of CAT is the innovative and creative use of color and illustration skills.

    Round 2: Situation Test / Group Discussion / Interview-

  • Situation Test : B.Des Applicants only
  • Shortlisted candidates for B.Des from the written entrance examination are required to take a Situation Test which is a hands on test to evaluate the candidate’s skills for material handling and innovative ability on a given situation with a given set of materials. The weightage assigned to each test in the final merit list of the entrance examination will be as under:

    Foundation Course:

    Two semester Foundation Program. The program is designed to foster the creativity, sensitivity and skills to form a strong foundation. The students will have a choice to select the specialization after completion of Foundation program and the selection will be based on the performance during the first two semesters reflecting the student’s aptitude.
