Fine Arts

The term "fine art" refers to an art form practised mainly for its aesthetic value and its beauty ("art for art's sake") rather than its functional value. Fine art is rooted in drawing and design-based works such as painting, printmaking, and sculpture.


It is often contrasted with "applied art" and "crafts" which are both traditionally seen as utilitarian activities. Other non-design-based activities regarded as fine arts, include photography and architecture, although the latter is best understood as an applied art

    Introduction

    The Faculty of fine Arts is dedicated to the education of professional artists and scholars of the history and theory of art. The emphasis is laid on creative identity of students and teachers to foster an approach to the study and practice of art which is inquiring, experimental and research minded.


    The major subject areas are Painting, Sculpture, Applied Art and Graphic Arts which have a constructive and interactive relationship. The students are admitted to the Undergraduate courses on the basis of their aptitude in the subject so that they can learn within a specialist environment while benefitting from interaction with the staff, students and facilities.


    Students are expected to develop their own work with tutorials and technical assistance according to their needs. The Faculty also offers research facilities in every area, leading to Ph.D. The University Grants Commission has honoured the Faculty with prestigious Special Assistance Programme like D.S. A. and ASIHSS.

    College of Art is an institution established in1942 for advanced training in Visual Art (Creative and Applied) leading to the Bachelor of Fine Art Degree of the University of Delhi, further providing advance training in Master in Fine Art course(except Art History) in (a) Applied Art (b) Art History (c) Painting (d) Printmaking (e) Sculpture and (f) Visual Communication with emphasis on studio practical's, prescribed theory subjects and research in selected fields.

    The College is under the Faculty of Music & Fine Art, University of Delhi, for all academic matters and wholly administrated by the Govt. of NCT of Delhi. Candidate will not be able to participate in the Centralized Admission Process (CAP) on the basis of score in MH-AAC-CET 2013.


    The facility of Constitutional Reservation is not available for the OMS candidates. Therefore all OMS candidates will be treated as OPEN/GENRAL Category candidates in the entire admission process.

    Visual Communication Candidates who have appeared for qualifying examination i.e. HSC (Std. XII) or its equivalent examination during the academic year 2013-14 and whose results are not declared till the last date of submission of application form are eligible to appear for MH-AAC-CET 2013, however for admission to first year of degree course in B.F.A. such candidates must fulfill the criteria as mentioned in rule no. 2.2#. Maharashtra State Candidates (defined as per rule no. 2.5#) and OMS candidate (defined as per rule no.2.6#) are eligible to appear for the MH-AAC-CET2013 conducted by the competent Authority of Govt. of Maharashtra for the academic year 2013-14.


    Even through Outside Maharashtra State (OMS) Candidates are eligible to appear for the MH-AAC-CET 2013, it is specifically made clear that such OMS

    The College now offers Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses leading to Bachelor and Masters Degree in Painting. Applied Arts and Sculpture besides that the college also runs B.F.A. course in Textile design and Indian Traditional Sculpture, Diploma courses in Art Masters Training. Home Art and Home Crafts, Iron and Heavy Metal Work, Wood Work, Furniture Design and Certificate courses in Clay Modeling are also being run here.

    There is a plan to introduce new job oriented short courses in designing and also to modify some of the existing Diploma courses according to the need of the time.
